The name for salt in Greek is ‘alati’ and it is from this, that Alaties takes its name.

For centuries, locals have collected the naturally forming sea salt that collects in the rock pools on the peninsula to the right of the beach.

It is possible to scramble out to the rock pools at the tip of the peninsula. Sturdy shoes are advised, as the rocks resemble a lunar landscape and are quite rough.

Some of the pools have water in and a few are deeper and can be bathed in.  If you take a container, you will also be able to collect some pure and natural sea salt. A perfect edible souvenir!

Acqua at Alaties plays cool music and serves amazing snacks and meals to beach goers during the day.

By evening Acqua becomes something of a mecca for those wishing to observe the spectacular sunsets seen from this part of the island. Many people like to book a table so that they can experience this amazing penomenon accompanied by a  sumptuous meal.
