The Marine Adventure
The award winning Marine Adventure is a boat trip with a difference. Spend the day on a vintage caique and cruise the channel between Kefalonia and Ithaca. You will stop on the way and, with the help of an experienced guide, will swim and snorkel, see and learn about the local sea creatures, visit shipwrecks and enjoy a tasty lunch on board. The trip is suitable for all ages – from adults to young children.
The Aghia Kyriaki, is one of the last few working caiques of her type. She is constructed entirely of wood, most of it cypress, and was built in the port of Patras on the Greek mainland in 1947. The Aghia Kyriaki, then spent her working life carrrying cargo under sail. Now fitted with a powerful diesel engine and equipped to conform with the latest European maritime safety standards, the Aghia Kyriaki spends her summers working from the harbour of Fiscardo and taking visitors on voyages of discovery in the coves and bays of the Ithaca channel.
To ensure comfort and the quality of the trip, the maximum spaces available on each trip are limited to a maximum of 17. From the moment you board the Aghia Kiriaki, you are assured of friendly personal service from the experienced captain and guide who will accompany you on your trip to discover the natural history and marine life of northern Kefalonia. You will have the opportunity to swim, snorkel or just enjoy the amazing scenery.
If you have not snorkelled before but wish to try, lessons are given in shallow water. Guests can help collect example of marine life which will be displayed in the on board aquarium for all to see.
At lunchtime, an excelent buffett lunch is served on board. This is accompanied by a glass of local wine or a soft drink. During the afternoon, the Aghia Kyriaki heads for more exciting locations for swimming and snorkeling. The last of these is the bay of wrecks where you can explore the remains of some ancient shipwrecks.
The Marine Adventure runs daily from Fiscardo departing at 09:30 and returning at around 16:00.
